“The Moon” The moon has horns and a god’s eye on it with
an orange lightning bolt floating below it. It hovers over
three sharp spikes coming out of what appears to be the earth.

executed in1935 at his Paris, Aviary Studio. This piece is on a beautiful
laid paper that was not generally used to print Verve. Verve printed
this piece on laid paper at Matisse’s request.

“Cosmic Spiders” This is the back half of cover 25/26. This cover
was specifically designed by Picasso for Verve. There are 17 black
spiders with blue leg and 3 yellow ones with black legs. Picasso worked
from 1949 to 1951 at his studio at Vallauris. Volume 25/26, 1951

Rattner, Abraham b. 1895
“Fire” A bizarre depiction of people being torn apart by the fire as
several drafting squares, a pallet, a book, a wall, and a church spire
are flying through the air. Rattner executed this piece as a line drawing
and colored it in bright yellow, brilliant red, and orange.
